In the midst of extravagant Halloween costumes, some celebrities were dressed to kill.
Mean Girls (2004) said it first: “Halloween is the one day a year where a girl can dress up like a total slut and no other girl can say anything about it”.
Whether you were planning for months for the perfect costume or had a wardrobe malfunction and dug out the classic cat ears and lingerie, Halloween should be a judgement free zone – unless you’re Billie Eilish, 20, and Jesse Rutherford, 31, dressing up as a baby and an old man in response to criticism of their controversial relationship.
But many celebrities went much further than black cat attire and this year’s halloween was full of unique and creative costumes. These are some of our favourites:
TikTok star Addison Rae, 22, paid tribute to the Mother Monster, Lady Gaga herself, by recreating her memorable 2009 MTV VMAs outfit. With blood dripping out her guts while singing her hit song ‘Paparazzi’, Gaga’s gruesome performance left a permanent mark on pop culture, and Addison too.
The American singer/songwriter Lizzo, 34, blew everyone out of the water with an unexpected choice for a costume: she’s nearly unrecognisable in her Marge Simpson getup – certainly a costume that not many could pull off.
If you, like many others, went on TikTok to find inspiration for Halloween and ran into this costume idea, you’ll be pleased to know that Olivia Rodrigo, 19, and you share a similar for you page. The singer is living out our childhood fantasies in her red dress and black wig, projecting the image of the 1930s cartoon character Betty Boop.
This Jenner sister might not know how to cut a cucumber, but she sure knows how to dress for Halloween. Somehow, Kendall, 26, managed to make Jessie from Toy Story fashionable and current by changing the jeans into a trendier style, but still staying true to the cowgirl vibe.
Replacing Rapunzel’s iconic golden mane with long, glorious braids is not something we were expecting. But Keke Palmer, 29, had a vision and she delivered. What started as a tweet saying “I want Keke Palmer to play live action Rapunzel with 100ft box braids”, Keke saw an opportunity and ran with it – and she looks great doing it.
Emma Chamberlain (and Role Model)
The pair really showed the world how a couple’s costume is done. Emma Chamberlain, 21, who got her start on Youtube, has massively stepped up her fashion game, and this Halloween was no exception: with her singer boyfriend, Tucker ‘Role Model’ Pillsbury, 25, they dressed identically as the twins from Stanley Kubrick’s classic The Shining.
2022’s Halloween definitely delivered in terms of fashion and creativity, but October’s officially over. it’s time to put all the skeletons back into the closet for another year – Mariah Carey is already defrosting as we speak. it might be time to start sorting out those tangled-up Christmas lights and drag your friends out to go ice skating.
