The ‘rate of growth’ of the virus appears to be slowing down, according to National Statistician Sir Ian Diamond.

“We are seeing a slowdown in the rate of growth (of the virus),” Sir Ian tells Sophy Ridge on Sky News.

There are reductions in infections in “teenagers and younger adults”.

But he says the R number remains above one.

Sir Ian Diamond’s comments come after the latest government figures show a further 462 coronavirus deaths and 26,860 new cases.
