Woody Allen says he won’t stop writing, but it seems that he is experiencing some serious funding problems since his daughter’s sexual assault allegations against him. In 2014 Dylan Farrow pleaded for support, but the public brushed aside the accusations as a private family matter. However, in 2018, her allegations seem impossible to ignore.
Farrow, who alleges to be assaulted by Woody Allen at the age of seven, has been telling the same story for years, hearing the same raging denials from the director.
At the same time Allen claims that Dylan was filled up with rage after discovery of his relationship with Soon-Yi and now wants revenge.
Nevertheless, the majority of cultural observers in the entertainment industry admitted that the prolific film-maker, who seemed untouchable, became toxic for Hollywood.
Particularly remarkable moves were made by Rebecca Hall and Timothée Chalamet, who publicly stated that they regret their involvement in Allen’s new film A Rainy Day in New York and donated their salaries to charity. Colin Firth, Michael Caine, Reese Witherspoon, Natalie Portman, Ellen Page, Lady Gaga any many others have already stated that they would not work with Allen in the future.

However, this doesn’t change the fact that other Hollywood stars still stand by the director. Alec Baldwin called the actors “unfair and sad” for publishing their apologies for working with Allen. Diane Keaton has come out in defense of her longtime friend. Javier Bardem has also spoken out: “…two states in the US deemed he was not guilty.” He added: “If the legal situation ever changes, then I’d change my mind. But for now, I don’t agree with the public lynching that he’s been receiving, and if Woody Allen called me to work with him again I’d be there tomorrow morning. He is a genius.”

As a result, 2019 will be the first time in decades that there will not be a new Woody Allen movie. Allegations against the director have influenced the sponsors not to fund for a new project. The last time Allen had a gap was between 1980’s Stardust Memories and 1982’s A Midsummer Night’s Sex Comedy.
Meanwhile, Woody Allen says he won’t stop writing despite Hollywood condemnations. He told Page Six: “I’m a writer. It’s what I am. What I do. What I always will be. I’ll write. Since I continually have ideas it’ll be new ideas and I’ll write new things.”
