Uber could cease to operate in capital as soon as next week

Transport for London (TfL) has until Monday to renew Uber’s license to run in the Capital

In September, TfL granted the ride-sharing service a two month while they further investigate.

In 2017 Uber lost their license over passenger safety concerns, stating they were not “fit and proper”, but securing a 15-months probationary license to operate in the capital 2018.

During the same year, they lost their license, Uber took on a new CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, has made changes to the company operating in London, to secure the company’s most important European market.

Changes include mandatory breaks for drivers after 10 hours of work and insurance to cover for unavoidable circumstances like illness.

A Twitter poll by TaxiPoint, a UK taxi trade publication, revealed that 39% of Londoners think Uber will probably receive a shorter license.

There are an estimated 45,000 Uber drivers in the capital.

Whether these changes will be enough, they will be hoping to secure a five-year licence renewal to run.

The Chair of the London Assembly Transport Committee, Florence Eshalomi AM had commented after the initial announcement: “What will it learn in two more months that it didn’t learn in the last 15 months?”
