Troy Deeney handed three match ban

Watford captain Troy Deeney has been given a three match ban by The FA.

The ban has been awarded following an incident with Joe Allen deep into stoppage time in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat against Stoke at Vicarage Road.

The FA panel unanimously agreed that the Watford striker warranted a charge and Deeney, 29, now has until 6pm on Tuesday to respond.

It comes at the end of a month where Deeney has seen more than his fair share of media spotlight, following his equalising penalty against Arsenal, and his comments including that the Gunners “lack cojones”.

Should Deeney choose not to appeal, he will be unavailable for The Hornets’ trips to Everton and Newcastle, as well as a clash with West Ham at Vicarage Road.
