The Victoria and Albert Museum has revealed that its next fashion exhibition will centre around the fascinating, and sometimes bizarre, relationship between fashion and the natural world. Titled “Fashioned From Nature”, the exhibition promises to showcase some of the best and brightest collaborations between mother nature and our favourite designers.
Expect to see designs from legends such as Stella McCartney and Philip Treacy, and remember to keep your eyes peeled for standout pieces such as the clutch bag made entirely from pineapple fibre. Alongside looks from modern designers like Vivienne Westwood and Christian Dior, the museum will showcase fashions that date all the way back to the 1600’s. One to look out for? The 1860’s dress decorated with the green wings of jewel beetles.
But don’t fear, it won’t all be feathers and insects. The museum has promised to not only focus on organic materials but also eco-friendly pieces and innovative designs made from recycled goods. So, you can also expect to find Emma Watson’s 2016 Met Gala look designed by Calvin Klein, entirely made from recycled plastic and designed to be re-worn. The ensemble will be placed alongside slogan tees from the 90’s, and pieces designed by Vivienne Westwood with the intention of drawing attention to the environmental impacts of fashion.
The museum has stated that the focus of the exhibition is not only to show off beautiful creation but also to highlight the impact the fashion industry can have on our ecosystem. So naturally, we can also expect to be shown all the ways to make fashion a more sustainable and planet friendly business.
The exhibition opens on April 21st, 2018 and will run until January of the next year.
