Taylor Swift is being awarded with Artist of the Decade at the American Music Awards (AMAs) later this month and revealed her plan to sing a medley of her previous hits.
In a message to fans with the caption “don’t know what else to do,” Taylor stated her 2020 plans are in doubt: “Right now my performance at the AMAs, the Netflix documentary and any other recorded events I am planning to play until November 2020 are a question mark…”
Swift also alleged that Scott Borchetta told her she would only be allowed to use her music if she agreed not to re-record her previous records.
Stars such as Halsey, Gigi Hadid, Jojo and Tinashe have shown her support.
When Taylor was 15 years old she signed a record deal with Big Machine and label boss Scott Borchetta. The label man gave the young star big cash in exchange to own her very first album up until 2017’s Reputation.
Scooter Braun’s Ithaca Holdings has agreed to acquire The Big Machine Label Group in a blockbuster label group. The deal includes the music publishing operation and $300 million, and now they own Taylor Swift’s masters.
Swift posted a lengthy blog post on her Tumblr revealing she felt “sad and grossed out” she was over the deal and detailed her history with Braun who managers Justin Bieber and Kanye West.
She stated: “ For years I asked, pleaded for a chance to own my work. Instead I was given an opportunity to ‘earn’ one album back at a time, one for every new one I turned in”. Swift also claims that Borchetta knew her “feud” with Braun for years.
