Selena Gomez is not afraid to be vulnerable in her new documentary ‘My Mind and Me’

Currently trending on Twitter is #MyMindAndMe, the name of Selena Gomez’s new single and documentary. In these, Gomez brings forward her inner wounds and showcases her journey of healing them. The documentary and single were released in the early hours of November 4th. You can watch the documentary on Apple TV.

The two-and-a-half-minute single establishes Gomez as finally, fully prepared to tell her story of struggling with her mental health. From feeling like a burden to understanding that her openness could help others, the track acts as a starter to the heavy documentary that goes further into her mental and physical battles.

The documentary, which is directed by Alek Keshishian, pieces together six years of the Lose You To Love Me singer’s life starting in 2016. It looks at Gomez’s childhood and her diagnosis. As well as her relationship with her celebrity status – the highlights and downfalls of being in the spotlight since the young age of seven.

During the Q&A for the documentary’s premiere, Alek Keshishian told the American Film Institute that he wants someone to ‘feel hope’ after watching it. Whilst Gomez mentioned that she wants people to know that ‘it’s okay to feel not good enough’, it’s more about how ‘we talk to ourselves and seek help’ – this should be a key takeaway from the documentary.

Though Gomez was initially hesitant to release the documentary, which she expressed in her Rolling Stone interview, she has already garnered a massive amount of love and support from viewers and fans.

Selena Martinez, 25, says: “It’s so powerful and great that she’s talking more publicly about what she has gone through.”

Martinez, a long-term supporter of Gomez, says: “Her music has truly helped me through a lot. These new releases by her make so me excited about new music to come.”
