One year on: Remembering Lil Peep

Today marks the one year anniversary of the accidental death of emo trap rapper Lil Peep. Peep died at the age of 21 from a fentanyl and Xanax overdose. The first of this month would have been his 22nd birthday, on Friday his first posthumous album Come Over When You’re Sober Pt. 2 was released and today marks the anniversary of his passing. His death left him a martyr and a role model for so many teenagers going through suicidal thoughts and depression. Peep was an artist that managed to infuse the emo rock of the 2000s into the trap rap of last few years.

On this weeks episode of the Voice of London podcast, I talk with an ambient artist from Oxford, Slooshy Me O Brother. His new record is releasing on 1st December entitled “wave_(s)” and can be streamed on SoundCloud or Bandcamp.

On the podcast, we talk about Peep’s new album and if its right to put out music from someone who has no say on its release, how much of a zeitgeist Peep was in his time and how much he reflected his lazy and instant generation. We also talk about Peep and XXXTentation’s relationship and their track released after both of their passings as well as talking about Peep’s inspiration and the influence he has over his audience. All this and loads more can be heard in this week’s VoL podcast below.
