Halloween 2020 – What to Binge Watch

With Halloween creeping around the corner, our festivities for this weekend may differ. That does not mean we can’t get into the spirit of the spooky season. Here is a list of top horror movies, everything from gory to your witty-horror comedy!

With many scared and confused as to whether they should go out, due to Tier 3 lockdowns happening across the UK. There are other ways that you can maintain social distancing while enjoying this spooky season, whether it be from the comfort of your own home to a cinematic drive-in experience.

What is happening in London?

Cinemas such as VUE  and ODEON are offering many well-known classic horrors this Halloween, with student pricing of course. From online bookings to social measures being placed, you are ensured to have a safe yet spooky cinematic experience.

If you are looking for an alternative, there are drive-in cinemas that are taking place across London these coming weeks. From staying in your bubble to comfort food getting delivered to your car, all you have to do is sit back, relax and enjoy this exclusive experience.

Let’s not forget about Fright Night at Thorpe Park, the seasonal experience is one to remember. From getting stuck in a maze and chased by zombies to hopping on Saw for an adrenaline rush!

  1. Shaun of the Dead (2004) 

    The combination of witty satire with a little twist of gore. Shaun of the Dead is by far one of the most British horror films out there, it is more so the British version of Zombieland, only with a little dry humour and zombies running around. Shaun is set off on a journey to save his mum from the apocalypse, accompanied by his flatmate Ed. Along their journey, they come across many encounters.

  2. Scary Movie (2000)

    Expect the unexpected. The movie is by far one of the most iconic parodies that follow the Scream plot twist. With the combination of gory, slasher comedy, embedded with a scary movie twist.

  3. A Haunted House (2013)

    Released in 2013, a haunted house is not your average horror film, it’s more the polar opposite.

  4. Zombieland  (2009)

    A virus outbreak that makes the majority into zombies, while others are yet to survive. Sounds a little familiar doesn’t it? Zombieland is a must-watch, it’s funny yet gory.

  5. The Exorcist (1973)

    If you are a horror fanatic, you definitely know about this demonic movie of a young girl who is trying to be saved through an exorcism.

  6. Scream (1996)

    If you are thinking of the cliché horror scene where a girl is home alone and receives a call, well this is where it originates from. The iconic movie is about a mysterious killer who is dressed up in a Ghostface Halloween costume who taunts a teenage girl in the fictional town in California called Woodsboro.

  7. The Boy (2016)

    Just like Anabelle, The Boy is another doll that you do not want to mess with. A nanny is set off to a British family thinking she will be looking after a young boy, who turns out to be a doll. Not following the strict rules given by the family, the nanny is set for a shaken, jumpy ride as she discovers the story behind ‘The Boy’.

  8. Beetlejuice (1988)

    After a couple dies in a car crash, their ghost-like spirit remains in the house. When the house is sold to a family they cannot bear, they call upon Beetlejuice to scare the family away. The must-see classic horror story comes with twists and turns, from comedy to horror.

  9. Sinister (2012)

    Moving into a new home, a writer and his family set off on a new chapter of their life, when they discover a box of recordings that will not only uncover previous misfortunes of the families who have lived their before. But figures out that this encounter is still lingering within the house.

  10. The Women in Black (2012)

    A young lawyer is on a journey to a remote village, where he encounters the darkness of Eel Marsh House, only to find the lingering ghost of a woman who terrorises locals.

  11. The Cabin In The Woods (2012)

    It is all fun and games until you are trapped in the woods. Five friends arrange a trip to a remote cabin in the woods where they discover they are not alone.

  12. Paranormal Activity (2007)

    A 6 Part series created by Oren Peli. The supernatural film is centred on a young couple who have been experiencing unfamiliar activities around the house, so they decide to set up cameras around showcasing their experience. Little did they know they were not alone.

  13. Scream Queens (2015)

    Present by Fox, Scream Queens is an American satirical horror comedy television series which involves a wealthy chic university sorority and their murderous encounters. This is definitely a girls night-in type of binge-watch, starring Emma Roberts.

  14. American Horror Story Season 1 -9

    This television series is based on anthology horror, starring Sarah Paulson. The series has originality mixed with weird, gory and odd events that make the series unique while leaving shivers down your spine.

  15. Insidious (2010)

    Insidious is by far one of the most well-known horror films out there. Having a five-part series we are on edge to see what is next. Starring Patrick Wilson as one of the main characters, the movie is based on a family whose son is faced with demonic possession. It is quite jumpy, so just be prepared.

  16. The Conjuring (2013)

    From the creators of Insidious, The movie is one of many directed by James Wan. Based on a real-life investigation of paranormal experts, The Conjuring is a nightmare waiting to happen to the Perron family.

  17. Anabelle (2014)

    The doll that lingers through many movies, Anabelle is about a possessed-spirit that lives within a doll. A husband was on the verge to find a gift for his expecting wife, not knowing that the gifted doll would come with a nightmare from satanic cultists.

  18. Orphan (2009)

    Based on a true story, Ester a nine-year-old girl has been adopted by a couple, however, she is not exactly what she appears to be. The psychological horror is filled with unexpected surprises and hauntings that also has relations to further cases.

  19. Silent Hill (2006)

    The simultaneous sleepwalking episodes of adopted daughter Sharon has lead the family to the ghost town of Silent Hill. On the way, a series of altercations occur leading the child to go missing, little did they know darkness was around the corner.

  20. Truth or Dare? (2018)

Could it be the survival against the fittest? A trip to Mexico turned upside down when a group of friends decide to play truth or dare, not knowing it is the supernatural version where survival is the ultimate goal against the odds.
