The Barbican Centre, 30 minutes on foot from anywhere in Central London, is a melting pot of arts and culture amongst iconic tower blocks. It’s host to a concert hall, a theatre, art galleries and a lending library. There’s three cinemas, a large-scale tropical conservatory, and public spaces which converge with impressive installations. Packed with creative events on a daily basis, young Londoners are spoilt for choice with heavily discounted rates.
The Young Barbican scheme offers 14 – 25 year olds (yes, you students) discounted tickets to events within classical and contemporary music, visual arts, theatre and dance and creative learning. The discounts are available within three price tiers, £5, £10, and £15.
One exhibition proving popular at the minute is the Basquiat: Boom for Real. The first large-scale exhibition in the UK of the work of American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, held in one of many Barbican art galleries. Standard tickets are being sold for £16, but with Young Barbican, get access for just a fiver.
If immersive hip-hop exhibitions don’t take your fancy, check out below to see what else’s on, or head over to the Barbican website.
