A statement made by the chief medical officers of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland has said that after returning from overseas countries, that are not on the safe travel list, people only have to self-isolate for 10 days.

This change has already been effect in Wales and by Monday, all other UK countries will follow, even those persons who are currently in self-isolation.

The joint statement was released after the medical officers were “confident” in the evidence they reviewed and as a result the isolation period could be reduced.

This 10-day period will apply to those with positive test, as well as those who suspect they have coronavirus symptoms.

The chief medical officers have said “We urge everyone to self-isolate when appropriate – it will save lives.”
