The final trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was released on Monday evening, during the NFL football match over in the US.
The story is set to follow Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega) and Poe (Oscar Isaac), as they continue their fight against Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and another familiar face – or should we say voice?
The clip shows what seems to be some great – and intense – battle scenes as well as an emotional moment with C3PO, leaving some fans concerned for his fate. That being said, it ends on a touching note as we see a close up of Rey with her lightsaber, prepared for battle.
Though the trailer for the ninth episode has already accumulated millions of views, the fan reaction has been mixed, following The Last Jedi’s release back in 2017:

The Last Jedi killed Star Wars so much for me, that everything I see now is just… meh. The lightsaber battle again looks so sluggish. Bring back the prequel saber skills‼️ #TheRiseOfSkywalkerTrailer pic.twitter.com/r4YkLChUgR

The previous film saw positive reviews from critics, getting a Rotten Tomatoes score of 91% (certified fresh). But the audience score saw a massive drop to 44%, with over 213k user ratings.
The recent trailer was dropped on what would have been the late Carrie Fisher’s 63rd birthday too, a way to commemorate the actress who played Princess Leia.
The final episode of the Star Wars saga will hit UK cinemas on 19th December 2019. Tickets are on sale now.
