The Chelsea forward was not optimistic of a call-up, given the context of her dispute with the Football Association over allegations of bullying and harassment from Mark Sampson who has since been dismissed, although for different reasons, officially at least.
Newly appointed manager of the England Women’s national team, Mo Marley, assured fans that Aluko would be in contention for selection when in good form.
Aluko has only started two games this season, but has scored five goals in seven appearances. The 30-year-old also boasts a century of international caps.
The forward’s exclusion could be a result of the manager wanting to develop a strong team bond and avoid any unnecessary tension in the dressing room, given recent events. However, her absence will surely cause more uproar than her inclusion would have, considering her evident quality as a footballer.
