Patel issued an apology earlier today saying “I am sorry that my behaviour in the past has upset people. It has never been my intention to cause upset to anyone. I am very grateful for the hard work of thousands of civil servants who help to deliver the Government’s agenda”.

She concludes by thanking PM Boris Johnson for his support.

Laura Kuenssberg from the BBC stated the facts in her tweet, then emphasised how the Home Office has significantly contributed to how the events went down.

While others, mainly her colleagues, rushed to her defence, emphasising her positive characteristics.

Some, however, criticised the number of MPs that have tweeted in support of Patel.
