‘’It’s a great idea! I love the atmosphere, it is so relaxed. The cocktails are the only thing I have tried here but they are absolutely amazing!’’. Laura,27 decided to take her mother to the Urban Street Food Festival, who came all the way from Dereham to visit her daughter over the weekend. ‘’ We don’t have much of these festivals in Dereham, that’s why I love the idea behind all of this. I love the staff at the Cocktails stall!’’ says Evelyn, 52 while sipping on her Spooky Fine Cocktail with raspberry, vodka, lemongrass, prosecco, and strawberry jam.
Located in Euro Car Parks, Shoreditch, Urban Street Food Festival is filling its customer’s hearts and stomachs with a lovely atmosphere and delicious street gourmet dishes. On the spot you can enjoy food from Canada, Greece, Turkey, India, and more made from fresh produce and beautifully cooked. There is also a premium bar and a cocktail bar offering a range of exclusive cocktails, craft beer, ciders, wine and more. Only this Saturday you can enjoy two of any of the Halloween themed cocktails or craft beers at the price of one.
I went to visit the special Halloween themed Saturday stalls with my boyfriend. As a first time for us we spend around 15 minutes wandering around what exactly we should eat. As a vegetarian I did not have much choice but for him it was way more difficult as everything looks so tempting. Finally, we decided to go for a Turkish flatbread wrap with beef and Shanti Vegetable Dal. You can really taste the quality of the products. When I asked him to describe his food he could barely answer to me as he couldn’t get his hands off the wrap. After that he said it was a good combination of fresh iceberg salad with tomatoes, onions, rice, chips and beautifully cooked juicy tender beef strips all with a hot sauce.
I have always wanted to try something from the Indian cuisine, so I chose a dish that sounded to me as a good enough alternative to the original. Right after opening the lid, a puff of smoke came out followed by the typical curry and cumin aroma. I mixed the sauce with the rice. After the very first bite I felt the spiciness of the curry but not too much to rile the taste receptors. I could see cauliflower, carrots, chickpeas and coriander in the creamy substance.
Of course, a meal is not complete without a dessert so we headed off to the Nosteagia stall were we had a Bananarama bubble waffle with Nutella and bananas. It was delicious yet not very impressive. I have seen such desserts on Instagram where they seem much richer in ingredients and colors. I found our waffle quite boring.
Surprisingly the place was quite relaxed for a food market. Visitors eating in the seating area could enjoy live performances and some even played Jenga. Overall it is a nice place to spend your Saturday afternoon but I would really like to see more variety of salads and fresh fruits since more of the dishes were mainly consisted of bread and fried or grilled chicken and chips.
