Tom Hiddleston Plays Hank Williams In Upcoming I Saw The Light

Our very own Tom Hiddleston, a highly praised London actor, is taking on a new role as classic country singer Hank Williams as seen in the trailer for I Saw The Light, directed by Marc Abraham.

Not much has been said about this film as there have been major releases this year and previews of upcoming films for next year. But we still need to pay patronage to our London born actors, and I think today we should show our respect and interest to Tom Hiddleston in his role as American country singer Hank Williams in, I Saw The Light.

If you don’t know who Hank Williams is, he was a song-writer and musician in the country-rock genre. He was branded one of the most influential American songwriters in the 20th century. Hank learned to play the guitar from a black street performer who gave him lessons in exchange for food. Years later in life, Hank went on to perform and host live on WSFA radio in Montgomery, Alabama. After several of his band members were drafted into military service for WWII and WSFA dismissed him for his alcohol abuse, Hank went on to marry Aubrey Sheppard (who is played by Elizabeth Olsen in the film) who becomes his manager. He then began writing songs again and recording 35 singles, making hits such as ‘Moving It On Over’, ‘Lovesick Blues’ and ‘Hey Good Lookin”. After several years of alcoholism and prescription drug abuse, Hank’s health deteriorated and he died of heart failure at the age of 29 on 1st January, 1953.

Looking at the trailer, it looks like this film will have a lot a drama, emotions and could be tear-jerker for audiences. A real diverse turn in directing for Marc Abraham compared to the action films he’s done. Also, hearing Tom Hiddleston doing a southern accent makes him almost sound like Matthew McConaughey, maybe Tom took a few lessons from him.

I Saw The Light will release here in the UK on 5th February, 2016.
