Taylor James Eary feels “Brighter Than The Sun”

Words: Sal Fasone
When Taylor got into music and started playing it out loud, little did he know he would end up  releasing his own music. Over the last year he puts out the delicately rousing ‘Moving On’ and has been described as a ‘powerful, promising talent’ by Clash Magazine. After picking up strong praise from a number of online tastemakers, Taylor now returns to the spotlight with his latest release ‘Brighter Than The Sun’.
Voice of London met up with him in Southend, his hometown. He told us about his inspirations, what’s behind his latest track and what his upcoming projects are.
How did you understand that you wanted to do music in your life?
I’ve loved music from an early age as there was always music playing in my house. I eventually got given an old keyboard which I started playing and writing songs on, this was when I knew I didn’t want to do anything else.
Brighter Than The Sun is your new track. Where did you get the inspiration from?
Coming from Southend I had the lyric ‘The ocean was alive pulling me below’ going around in my head which blossomed when I came up with a guitar part. I guess ‘Brighter than the Sun’ is about the crave of something/someone that will eventually save you.
Lyrics are emotive. Would you describe it as a sad song?
Not necessarily, I personally think it’s quite an uplifting song, but then again it’s subjective so I guess it’s up to the listener.
What’s the process behind it?
I was in a studio playing around with ideas and I got hooked on the way the first verse sounded, the rest of the song pretty much fell into place. After the song was written I started adding different synths and layers of guitars the broaden the sound in the chorus’s which gives the song it’s euphoric sound. My favourite part of the process was bringing in different harmonies with backing vocals, i think this is what makes the song what it is.

What are working on at the moment? Have you thought about an album?
I’m currently working on another single to be released soon which I’m really excited about. Making an album is something I’ve always wanted to do, I’ve written so many songs in the past few years, so it would be nice to compile them into a body of work. At the moment I haven’t planned to though.
What inspires you the most?
Listening to different music really, whether it’s modern or old. If I hear I song I like I get obsessed with it and it encourages me to write. Honestly, I don’t really write from personal experiances.
What do you like to do in your free time? What interests you?
I play a lot of golf in my free time, I have for quite a while now and I love it.
What is Taylor’s biggest dream?
At the moment my biggest dream would be headline a big festival like Glastonbury. I don’t think there’d be anything better than looking out and playing to sea of people, especially if they know the songs.
When are we going to see you live on stage?
Very soon. I’ve been practicing my live set recently getting the sound as good as is it can be and giving the songs the justice they need, so the wait won’t be very long.
