Speaking to the Voice of London, Peter, 21, said: “I was really scared. I saw the ambulance crew and police at the station and I wondered what had happened.”

The victim, who has not been named, was taken to Northwick Park Hospital.

A second year fashion student, Gemma, 20, said: “It was really frustrating that I had to find another way to get to university at Wembley Park.”

The Metropolitan line press office confirmed that the service continued to run with minor delays into the late afternoon between Harrow on the Hill and Uxbridge.

James, 20, said: “Although I was not late for class, it is just annoying that I waited more than 30 minutes to get onto a train.”

The incident happened at 09:02 on the northbound track and initially caused severe disruption.
