Stormzy and J-Hus Win Big At GRM Daily Award Show

Words: Bella Dawe | Subbing: Sal Fasone

Both Londoner’s took home well-deserved titles this year at the third annual GRM Daily Rated awards

After walking down the ‘yellow’ carpet at the Roundhouse, Camden last night, both Stormzy and J-Hus received two awards at the ceremony which celebrated grime music. Each awards been voted for by the public online apart from Best Artist, Get Rated and the Legacy award, which were decided by an industry panel.

Stormzy walked away with the most coveted awards of the evening: ‘Artist of the Year’ and ‘Best Video’ for Big For Your Boots. Both of these victories were somewhat predictable seeing as his debut album reached U.K. number one this year making it the first independently released grime album to ever top the charts.
However, the Gang Signs and Prayer MC was humble whilst collecting his trophy and instead praised the women who had helped him reach his success.
“Big up all the legendary girls of our industry, all the powerful women in the U.K. music scene […] If you watch the videos you will see all those amazing girls who helped make this happen.” said the MC who was also presented GQ’s Solo Artist of the Year by Jeremy Corbyn this September.

J-Hus, who has also seen huge commercial success this year, took away two awards of his own with ‘Album of the Year’ for Common Sense and ‘Best Track’ for Did You See.

Don’t worry if you missed the awards as the entire event was live streamed on YouTube and is available to watch here:
