The pedestrian, who is in his 20s, was walking past the five-star London hotel on Friday morning when a metal-framed outdoor sofa fell 130ft to the ground. According to passers-by, the man suffered serious facial injuries.
One witness told The Sun: “He looked like his face had been ripped off. It was raining and where the drops were hitting his face it was making him scream in agony.”
Police said the man was transported to Royal London hospital in Whitechapel by air ambulance and was in a critical but stable condition.
A W Hotel spokesman confirmed there was an accident outside but said that the furniture fell from one of the eleven privately-owned penthouses on the building’s roof, The Sun informed.
A spokeswoman for Knight Frank, the property company that manages the executive penthouses, said that the firm will fully cooperate with the ongoing police investigation and denied further comment.
