Westminster City Council have received a planning application for an expansion of Lord’s Cricket Ground which would see the capacity surpass 30,000.

The redevelopment plans submitted by Marylebone Cricket Club would see the Compton and Edrich stands in the Nursery End of the ground extended to three tiers.

The plans include a walkway that would pass under the Media Centre with a view of the Nursery End, and will increase the ground’s capacity by 2,500.

If approved, the work will begin in August 2019 after The Ashes are finished and would be completed in 2021 if all goes to plan.

Architectural firm Wilkinson Eyre won the rights to complete the work.

Guy Lavender, chief executive and secretary of MCC, said: “Wilkinson Eyre presented a beautifully crafted design of two new stands, which pays great respect to the existing Media Centre and yet delivers sufficient height to accommodate significantly more public seats.”
