Is This The Biggest Upset In Sporting History?

The hype was immense, and the whole world bought into it. Everyone. Apart from Holly Holm.

Holm produced a dominant stand up performance, completely nullifying her opponent. 59 seconds into the second round Holm delivered the knockout head kick, becoming the first person to beat Rousey in the UFC.

Holm said: “I had so much love and support. I thought, ‘how could I not do this?’.

“There was lots of blood, sweat and tears, but it sure was worth it. I’m trying to take this in, but this is crazy.”

She saved her best performance for a record breaking crowd. UFC president Dana White confirmed at the post fight press conference a record gate, with 56,214 people at the Etihad stadium in Melbourne.

This leaves Holly Holm with a perfect record of 10-0 and a very bright and lucrative future. Ronda Rouseys next steps will be closely watched, with everyone waiting to see how she will come back from such a devastating loss.

Perhaps complacency played a role in this defeat for Rousey, who, since knocking out Bethe Correia inside a minute in early August, has become a global phenomenon.

Rousey will have to go away and completely re-think her approach. After last nights fight, Twitter users have a lot of suggestions for her:

This will now go down as one of the biggest upsets in sporting history. Reminding everyone again that no matter who you are, you can be beaten.
