If you haven’t been in London for a long time but still managed to witness and survive the tube strike periods in August and July then you can imagine what it would look like during the Christmas holiday as well. Trouble is that during this period not only do the trains not run but also buses stop working. If you are lucky enough to own a car or able to afford cabs then it is of no worry or concern to you. Unfortunately, most people commute and it is impossible for them to live through the Christmas in the capitol. London is dead for 3 days.

A lot of the British national citizens have relatives or friends outside the big city so it is easy for them to just escape for a few days and visit them. It is a cheaper alternative for a holiday and you get to spend it in a house full of familiar faces. The other option is booking a hotel for a few nights outside of London. We give you a few suggestions below for the dates 22nd to 26th of December:

The Portland Hotel *** (Manchester)- A small double room would cost you 190GBP for the stay. The hotel is clean and good service is provided. There is free WIFI and an indoor swimming pool. They have a gym which includes sauna, hot tub, steam room and plunge pool.

Aparthotel Adagio Liverpool City Centre**** (Liverpool)- A studio for 4 nights would cost you 196GBP. They provide immaculate service, free WIFI and a fitness centre. The flats have an en suite bathroom, flat-screen satellite TV and fully fitted kitchen with dishwasher. It is situated in a central place and you don’t have to worry about transportation. If you decide to take more people you can get the one-bedroom apartment for 4 people for 280GBP for the same period. It is a deal!

Hampton by Hilton Birmingham Broad Street*** (Birmingham)- A double or a twin room would cost you 204.80GBP with breakfast included in the booking. It is 5 mins walk from the city centre. The hotel provides secure car parking, free WIFI and on-site dining. You can also go to Cadbury World and have a goot time with your family. It is only 10 mins drive from the hotel.

Novotel Leeds Centre**** (Leeds)- For the price of 196GBP you can enjoy a queen bedroom with a sofa bed. It is situated in a central place and it is 3 mins walk from Leeds Rail Station. They provide excellent service, private parking and free WIFI. Children up to 16 can stay for free (including the breakfast) if sharing a room with adults. Families receive complimentary late check-out on Sunday until 17:00.

Most foreigners prefer to go home back to their roots on Christmas as it is a family celebration all around the world. They, however, have to worry about the expensive flight tickets and Christmas presents which would painfully affect anyone’s bank account. You have to think about gifts for the family members and relatives and also for all friends as you are returning from another country and it is expected of you to bring at least sweets or something to feast on.

We are giving you some examples of two-way flight tickets during the Christmas period and we choose a week trip from the 22nd to 29th of December (bear in mind, that we are offering the cheapest options found):

London-Paris-London– Total fare per passenger is 234.21GBP including hand luggage, newspapers, a snack and a seat of your own choice on check-in. This does not include additional luggage but if you’d like to add it, it would cost you 15GBP. The airline is AirFrance.

London- Barcelona-London– Total fare is 141.93GBP per passenger with only hand luggage included. If you would like to choose your seat, you will have to pay extra depending on the seat you’d like. If you want bigger baggage, you will also have to pay extra (10.88GBP).

London-Goa-London– 875.86GBP would cost you to go to Goa with JetAirways without an excess luggage and if you’d like to add it, it would cost you an additional 73.80GBP for just one way. The flight ticket includes meals, however, as the journey is quite long.

London-Lagos-London– People that would like to go to Nigeria for Christmas would need to make a lot of savings during the year because a trip like this would cost them 1817.98GBP with Lufthansa. It does include a meal and two pieces of luggage both ways but it would be a bit absurd if it didn’t for that price.

We hope we have given you some useful information and you’d be wiser how you spend your money and where you put them. Enjoy your Christmas now because we sure will.
