Healing our minds with art
Words: Desta Wondirad, Subeditor: Bea Renshaw
Sometimes we let our emotions get the best of us. Depression, anxiety and nervousness can be debilitating, making social interaction incredibly difficult. Our mental heath always seems to come after our physical wellbeing, despite its undeniable importance. In a small but stylish wooden building, in what was previously known as Lowlands Recreation Ground in Harrow, Emily and Ritchie run a “comic creators course”. Its for 19-30 year olds, experiencing anxiety, stress or low mood. This course is part of the nationally funded initiative called Mind in Harrow. I interviewed Emily and Ritchie, and we talked about how art can help people cope with mild mental illnesses.
