A man is fighting for his life after being struck by a sofa that fell from the W Hotel on Wardour Street, near Leicester Square. Words: Mariya Savova The pedestrian, who is in his 20s, was walking past the five-star London hotel on Friday morning when a metal-framed outdoor sofa fell 130ft to the ground. According to passers-by, the man suffered serious facial injuries. One witness told The Sun: “He looked like his face had been ripped off. Shaker Aamer, the last British detainee held in Guantanamo Bay, has been released after almost 14 years in detention. UK Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond made a statement on Friday declaring Aamer had left the base and would be back in the UK "later today" and is expected to return to his Battersea home. Tara Hudson, a 26 year old transgender woman from Bath, has lost her appeal against her sentence at a men's prison. Words: Daisy Greenaway, Subeditor: Mariya Savova After being sentenced to 12 weeks at the all-male HMP Bristol prison for assault charges, an appeal was launched, backed by thousands of supporters, to have her moved to a women's facility. Llewelyn Sellick, The Recorder of Bristol, said Miss Hudson had a "worrying criminal record" and added: "It is for the prison service and not the court to establish where a sentence should be served". The judge had asked for consideration in where she serves the sentence.
