So the day he took the decision to officially move back and play with his first ever team, he made a promise. Carlos Tevez, ex Juventus player, said he would bring Boca Juniors back to victory after three years of difficulty. And he kept that promise.
The forward was not able to settle anywhere else, having Argentina in his heart. While playing for Manchester City at one point, he even claimed that he was homesick and wanted to move back closer to Argentina as his family had failed to settle in in the UK.
Therefore it was only a matter of time until he finally decided to return to Buenos Aires.
Playing for the Argentinian champion Boca Juniors Tevez went back to his roots to start a new life. The Argentinian feels Boca Juniors have “saved his life, literally”.
Because when Tevez started playing football for this home team, he was overwhelmed about having the opportunity to seek a better life, a life out of the streets.
“…If it hadn’t been for football I would have ended up like many of the boys in the barrio: dead or in jail or slumped on the side of the road, drugged up”, stated the Argentinian during one of his interviews.
Two decades later, he helps Boca to win their 25th club title. Darkness and insecurity marked by crime and violence he had to experience while growing up in the ghettos of Buenos Aires were defeated by football.
Winning this title after a long time away from home was a “feeling like no other” to Tevez.
