BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards 2015

Nick Grimshaw presents the annual teen awards show from Wembley Arena.

Words: Aminah Mughal, Subeditor: Alice Marshall

The show opened with a special surprise performance from none other than Justin Bieber! Featuring fireworks (literally starting with a bang!). His crazy good dance moves had the crowed cheering. Singing three songs, Bieber thanked the crowed after his performance and said “Man, I just really wanna say how grateful I am for each and everyone one of you. And I wouldn’t be on this stage if it wasn’t for you.” Awe. As well as dropping that, his album is out November 13th (can’t wait!). Live performances from musical guests also included: All Time Low, Little Mix, Nick Jonas and the Australian band 5 Seconds of Summer who closed the show.

Presenter Nick Grimshaw was joined by co-hosts Demi Lovato (who also performed), The Vamps, Troye Sivan and Rita Ora on stage. Other guests included, actor Idris Elba, Coldplay and YouTuber, Jim Chapman.

Video messages from Ariana Grande, Charlie XCX, Jason Derulo, Peter Andre (random!) were sent in to the show. Even actor Benedict Cumberbatch sent in a video message for Teen Hero winner Alice. (This is why we love him, gaaahjfgl.) In this sweet message of congratulations he told her, “I can’t begin to tell you how extraordinary I think your achievements are and at such a young age. You so deserve this award.” And told Wembley to “lift the roof off for her.” *smiles with a massive grin*

Although leading winners One Direction and Ed Sheeran were not present they sent in video messages. On One Directions second win they had Radio 1’s Greg James accept the award on their behalf.

Olly Murs picked up the award for X Factor’s win in Best British TV Show.

The Hunger Games: Mockingay part 2 won Best Film.

Teen heroes Alice, Rosie & Aaren were honoured.
